Day 1: Arrival - Antananarivo
On your arrival, after the customs formalities, a team member of Alexandra Travel will welcome and greet you. We will then escort you to the Hotel Pavillon de L'Emyrne. If the hotel is fully booked, we will secure you a place in a hotel of equal quality. Your accommodation will be with half board.
Day 2: Antananarivo - Andasibe
Once you have enjoyed breakfast, we will gather and then head straight to Andasibe, where you will experience the typical landscape of the island and see the eastern rainforest. During the drive there will be a stop where you will have the opportunity to visit the Peyrieras Reptile Reserve. Once inside, you can witness a variety of indigenous and fascinating animals such as species of chameleons, frogs, lizards, geckos, snakes and more. On arrival in Andasibe, you can check in at Vakona Lodge. If the Lodge is fully booked, we will secure you a place in a Lodge of at least equal quality. Before dinner, there is an evening walk in the private forest of the Mitsinjo Association, where, with a bit of luck, you can see other exotic animals, such as the Indri, one of the largest lemurs in the world. You will stay in your accommodation for 2 nights on a half board basis.
Day 3: Andasibe
In the morning you can enjoy breakfast in the accommodation. Later on we will continue to the primary forest of the Mantadia National Park, where day-active lemur species such as the Black and White Crescent Lemur, the Diadem Sifaka Lemur, the Common Brown Lemur, the Eastern Grey Bamboo Lemur and the Red-bellied Lemur as well as several other indigenous bird species can be spotted. After the visit we drive back to the lodge. In the afternoon you can look forward to exploring the private reserve of Vakona, which consists of two parts: the Crocodile Farm and Lemur Island. The crocodile park is surrounded by abundant vegetation and in the Lemur island, you'll have the chance to spot huge and rare Indri again. You can take a canoe trip on the lake or a ride on horseback to explore the forest. If you are lucky, you may spot an indigenous cat-like fossa, a relative of the mongoose that resembles a small puma.
Day 4: Andasibe - Antananarivo
Shortly after your breakfast we will visit the Analamazaotra Reserve, where you will have the opportunity to take a walk through a magnificent forest to see a variety of animals and plants. The reserve is part of a national park and is home to the the largest lemur species called Indri-Indri, which is said to sing. Be sure to take some unforgettable photos of the vivid wild flowers and ancient tall trees. Afterwards we drive back to Antananarivo where you will check in at the Hotel Pavillon de l'Emyrne on a half board basis. If the hotel is fully booked, we will secure you a place in a hotel of at least equal quality.
Day 5: Antananarivo - Fort Dauphin - Berenty
After breakfast we go to the airport and then fly towards Fort Dauphin. Upon arrival there is a short gathering and then we drive directly to Berenty, which is about 84 km from the town. Make stops along the way for memorable photos at the fruit market, the burial art of the Antanosy tribe, spiny forests, baobab trees, sisal plantation and more. Upon arrival, you will check in at the lodge. If time permits, you can take a first walk in the afternoon in the gallery forest to observe lemurs and birds. To round off the day, we take a nocturnal walk through the spiny forest to discover night-active creatures such as the grey mouse lemur and the white-footed sports lemur. You will be accommodated at the Berenty Lodge for 2 nights on a half board basis.
Day 6: Berenty
We spend the whole day in the private reserve Berenty and explore its surroundings. Three species of diurnal lemurs are easily seen in this reserve, including the Ring-tailed Lemur, the Sifaka Lemur and the Brown Red-fronted Lemur, as well as several native bird species such as the Giant Cua, the Crested Cua, the Chabert's Vanga, the Madagascar Sparrow and the Madagascar Harrier Buzzard. With enough luck, sooty falcons can also be spotted.
Day 7: Berenty - Fort Dauphin
After breakfast you have the opportunity to make a last visit to the reserve, as we will drive back to Fort Dauphin in the afternoon, where you will be accommodated in the hotel La Croix du Sud on a half board basis. If the hotel is fully booked, we will secure you a place in another hotel of at least the same quality.
Day 8: Fort Dauphin - Antananarivo
After breakfast you will have free time until the flight back to Antananarivo. Upon arrival at the Ivato airport, you will be picked up by one of our team members and escorted to your hotel. Upon arrival you will be checked into the Hotel Pavillon de L'Emyrne where you will stay for two nights on a half board basis. If the hotel is fully booked, we will secure you a place in another hotel of at least the same quality.
Day 9: Antananarivo
In the morning you have the opportunity to walk through the lively and vibrant streets of the capital. The walk starts in the lower city, goes through the Independence Avenue and continues with a visit to the market of Analakely, the famous staircase of Antananarivo, leading to the business centre of the capital. We continue our ascent and from the old town you will be introduced to the architecture and urbanism of the capital of Madagascar. We will visit the Queen's Palace before we end the day with a nice sundowner with a view of the city.
Day 10: Antananarivo - Monrodava - Kirindy
Before we go to the airport, you can enjoy your breakfast. Afterwards we fly to Morondava, a town on the west coast of Madagascar. Upon arrival there will be a short gathering and then we will drive on to Kirindy. After arrival in Kirindy you can initially make your way to your hotel room. Once there, during the day you will have the opportunity to visit a drive-leaf forest to discover its wildlife. You will be accommodated for two nights at Hotel Relais de Kirindy on a half board basis.
Day 11: Kirindy
In the morning you will have breakfast at the hotel. Later you will take an excursion to the Kirindy Reserve, which is the only place where you can find the smallest known primate in the world: the Malagasy Giant Jumping rat. It is also home to various species of lemurs and a number of native reptiles. The flora is also unusual with a number of unique species. After the excursion we go back to the hotel where you can rest.
Day 12: Kirindy - Marofandilia - Morondava
On this morning, after breakfast, you have a last chance to explore the Marofandilia forest. In the afternoon you will return to Morondava with a stop at the "Allée des Baobabs" where you can enjoy the sunset. You will then be accommodated at the Kimony Resort Hotel on a half board basis.
Day 13: Morondava - Antananarivo
After breakfast at the hotel we fly back to Antananarivo. Upon arrival there will be a brief gathering, followed by check-in at the Hotel Pavillon de L'Emyrne. Your stay in the accommodation will be on half board. If the hotel is fully booked, we will secure you a place in a hotel of equal quality.
Day 14: Antananarivo - Flight back home
On the last day of your Malagasy adventure, you can start the morning with breakfast at the hotel. You will also have the opportunity to take a short city tour and shop in the La Digue market before we accompany you to the airport.
The standard price covers a shared room with two beds. Paired travellers are accommodated in shared rooms. Solo travelers will share a room with another traveler of the same sex.
